Development Agency of Area

            AKOMM - PSILORITIS S.A. is a Development Agency which is legally conditioned by the legislation for the private anonymous companies.  However, a percentage of 85% in the composition of the participial capital of the company, take part Organisations of Local Self-government of the region of Psiloritis Mountain (Idi).  It was founded in 1988 and has seat in Anogia, a mountainous Municipality.

             The company deals with the planning and the administration of European and National Programs in the region of Psiloritis Mountain.  Especially, this period of time it manages the Community Initiative “LEADER +” as a Team of Local Action and the “Integrated Programs for Development of Rural Area”, which is a program of Ministry of Agriculture.

             Also, the company acted as a partner in regional cooperation in Crete, for the Community Initiative “Equal” on the subject: “Social Economy” as well as the program of the Ministry of Occupation and Social Protection, which was named: “Accompanying Supporting Services” and concern the support of disadvantage teams of population for their access in the Labour Market.

             Simultaneously, the company manages a large number of social programs, such as: “Help at home”, “Baby Care Centre”, “Creative Occupation for Children Centre”, “Daily Care for Elderly Centre” and “Continuing Units for Social Care”.  Totally, in the framework of all these programs, the company occupies 43 individual personnel, while it allocates sufficient staffed accounts department and suitable material and technical infrastructure.

             Since 1992 the company manages the Community Initiative Leader.  Some other previous activities were the administration of educational programs, the participation in the administration of the Community Initiative of Labour (as a partner of cooperation of region of Crete), as well as programs LIFE and INTERREG II.

             The company takes action in Environmental Issues.  In Cooperation with the Natural History Museum of Crete, AKOMM - Psiloritis S.A. manages the Psiloritis Natural Park which is a member of European and Global Geoparks Network under the auspice of UNESCO.

             Finally, AKOMM - Psiloritis S.A. is a member of:

In the intervention zone of AKOMM - Psiloritis S.A.  there are several problems, mainly youth problems, those related with desistance of school in an early age, juvenile delinquency, unemployment,  lack of leisure activities, lack of interesting for new enterprising ideas and finally disinterested in participate actively in the society.
