The new Information Centre for Psiloritis UNESCO Global Geopark was officially opened

The new Information Centre for Psiloritis UNESCO Global Geopark was officially opened on the 24th of August 2016 with the distinguished presence of the Regional Governor of Crete  Mr Stavros Arnaoutakis and the President of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO Mrs Ekaterini Maria Papachristopoulou-Tzitzikosta. Many Regional Authorities’ councillors, the Majors of Heraklion, Anogia and Mylopotamos, local authorities’ officers, representatives of the other two UNESCO designated areas of Crete, the Samaria gorge and Sitia geopark, as well as representatives of local organizations and institutions and many local people were present.
During the opening ceremony short speeches were given by the Major of Anogia and President of Geopark Management Committee Mr Kallergis, the President of Hellenic Commission for UNESCO Mrs Papachristopoulou-Tzitzikosta and the Regional Governor of Crete Mr Arnaoutakis. A short introduction for Psiloritis UNESCO Global Geopark was presented to the guests by the Vice President of Geopark Management Committee Mr Charalampos Fassoulas followed by a guided visit in the new facilities.
The ceremony ended with a nice concert of traditional Cretan music performed by local artists and local goods.
Psiloritis Geopark wishes to thank Mrs Papachristopoulou-Tzitzikosta for her valuable assistance to the Greek Geoparks, as well as Mr Arnaoutakis and the Region of Crete for the strong support to the Geopark’s activities.
